The series ran on ABC from September 17, 2002 to April 15, 2005.The first season focused on Paul being left in charge of the kids after Cate takes a full-time job as a nurse, with comedic emphasis on his often strict rules concerning his daughters and dating.8 Simple Rules (originally 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter for the first season) is an American sitcom comedy television show, originally starring John Ritter and Katey Sagal as middle-class parents Paul and Cate Hennessy raising a family of three.Kaley Cuoco, Amy Davidson, and Martin Spanjers co-starred as their teenage kids; Bridget, Kerry, and Rory Hennessy.Yet his height defines him, since it has prevented otherwise interested women from being interested in him over the course of his entire life. Okay, I’m kidding about the last part, but only because I’m so serious about the rest of this. And even though we had good initial results, the fact remains, empirically: women don’t want short men.To see if the women would go for short guys who were successful, ABCNEWS’ Lynn Sherr created extraordinary résumés for the shorter men. Sherr asked whether there’d be anything she could say that would make the shortest of the men, who was 5 feet, irresistible. And although you can feel free to substitute “older women”, “older men”, “heavier women”, or “Asian men”, I honestly feel that nobody gets a rawer deal than short guys.I remember having the same mindset myself at that age. Granted, no one hopes for this outcome and we have these peripheral ideas about needing time with a person to test the relationship, but in the end of the day, serial relationships do more harm than good.As unfair as it might seem, this phenomenon is more damaging to woman than men.
After three seasons, ABC cancelled 8 Simple Rules in May 2005 due to low ratings.
What doesn't end in permanency is bound to end in heartbreak, and if you eventually want to get married, you are doing yourself a disservice by ignoring that fact in the interest of "not over-thinking it" or "living in the moment." While emotional risk is important and necessary in order to find someone you really connect with, dating with no objective is nothing short of reckless.
So before you get involved with someone new, make sure you know what you are looking for - and more importantly for women, what is looking for. If you both want someone to settle down with, count yourself lucky.
This post has been expanded and rewritten as a chapter, along with other chapters that explain how to think about dating and relationships in a way that will help you attract solid, confident men.
If you’re a regular reader, you probably knew that I was on the CBS Early Show in July. We wrote two new profile essays that were unique, funny and confident.
