Delmar Allen "Dale" Hawkins (August 22, 1936 – February 13, 2010) was a pioneer American rock singer, songwriter, and rhythm guitarist who was often called the architect of swamp rock boogie.Fellow rockabilly pioneer Ronnie Hawkins was his cousin. This is more of a pop release with only a very slight country twang.Benny Joy (born Benjamin Eidson November 5, 1935 - died October 24, 1988) was an American rockabilly guitarist and singer who released three singles in his recording career, and was popular regionally in Florida.Nonetheless, if you are only going to release one single, this is the way to do it.
In 1956 Steve Carl gave his demos to Sam Phillips of Sun Records, who turned him down because he was just about to produce new Johnny Cash material.
His principal influence was Hank Williams and perhaps his records often loomed too close to Hank's to have any truly influence of their own.
Nonetheless, his two rockabilly singles for Starday Records, of which this was the first, rate among his very best.
Allen and his band originally came to Memphis to audition for Sun. The A-side was originally "She's the One That's Got It", an uptempo rockabilly song with cool lyrics.
The B-side is arguably stronger than the A-side, with strange lyrics and excellent, understated guitar work.
