A very long time ago (over 10 Quicken versions ago), you could not create a new Quicken account without supplying a financial institution name. The name did not have to be real (you could just key an "X" in the field, for example), but you had to supply a name.I have 5 accounts in a bank that just merged and changed it's name.I was able to change the "Financial Institution" name on 4 of the accounts, but the 5th account just will not change. It is only one of these accounts that I can't change the name. If I had remembered that when I wrote the post, I would have changed the wording, but the bottom line would have been basically the same.I was able to reproduce the problem exactly as you described it (including being able to key a new financial institution name, but having Quicken fail to save that name), so I have confirmed what appears to be a Quicken problem. When I spoke to them they conveyed the information that their new online banking doesn't support the Q mobile app yet? I have called Regions support 3 times today with issues with deactivation and reactivation of my Quicken/Regions accounts following Regions software updates. During this whole process I was advised to update Quicken. Thanks to Article ID: GEN83626, I was able to locate the Financial Institution List file on my computer and it shows that it was last modified on 5/20/2016. I, too, did not have the Regions Bank as a choice and the only thing that helped is markus1957 solution! When I did that voila it was on the list and I could update.
Apparently I was able to rectify the Windows 10 software but not the i Phone 5s sync. I wonder if I skipped some Quicken Update/Revisions and that made a difference. I would think the Financial Institution list would be owned by Quicken and if one user sees a Financial Institution, all users would see it? I have been downloading transactions into Quicken via direct connection for many years without problems.
After deactivating (a major problem in itself) I added a checking account used the advanced setting and typed in Regions bank , filled in my username and password. Yeah, my bad,,, I meant "Regions Bank" not "Quicken Bank". I was told by the Regions Banker that some people see "Regions Bank" and some do not. Yes, I did check out that link and I followed the instructions to update the file. The Bank changed their software and changed the name of the Financial Institution from Regions Financial to Regions Bank. Just killed several hours between yesterday and today!
After my accounts were located , I linked the found accounts to the quicken 2017 nickname . The mobile app did sync but then I started getting error messages that regions needed more info. I am not sure that step worked as there was no confirmation of any kind as to whether was actually updated but after doing that, I still don't see "Regions Bank" in the Drop-down list of Institutions. I was finally told that Regions does not support Quicken 2017. I can still see Regions Financial in the list but it no longer works according to the bank. When you go back in to set up your accounts, use the advanced option and type in Regions Bank if it does not show on the list. I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicken and then did the marcus solution and it was there.
Now, unless you take an unusual approach to new account creation, new accounts that are not online-enabled will have a blank financial institution name ... Or, were the accounts whose name you can change, ever enabled for downloading?
Or is there some other characteristic that differentiates the accounts?
